About

aboutLegacy of an independent consultancy spanning three decades

Eclipse Research Consultants operated as an independent consultancy between 1984 and 2018. We undertook strategic and applied research into design, construction, management and operation of the built environment, from individual buildings to urban design. We reviewed the ownership and performance of the building stock, studied the use of new design and planning tools and guidance, and assessed the impact of new initiatives and technologies. We worked with leading international and national organisations to identify, capture and promote best practice. We offered extensive experience in workshop design and facilitation, stakeholder engagement, and in monitoring and evaluation of research programmes and projects.

We published widely on sustainability, climate change, and the rethinking construction agenda. We took a particular interests in tangibles and intangibles – not just in relation to good design and its outcomes, but to urban regeneration, cultural heritage, and user-centric civic services. We produced lay and technical reports, audits, best practice guides, case studies, workshop and seminar presentations, and posters and promotional material. Collaborating with others, we contributed to databases and website designs. We maintained close academic links to leading university departments in architecture, engineering and the built environment.

The principals are continuing to practice but through different routes: see the People page.
